getting settled

1.31

so much to tell.
i took the placement test today and am glad that is done. its was about 2 1/2 hours long of written opinion, video comprehension, grammar, and oral conversation.

yesterday was full of things falling into place. first thing in the morning i went to the registrar and signed up for classes. right now i will have a 2 spanish language classes, a spanish lit, culture, and history classes. after that i asked a million questions about this and that. then the next big decision... housing. they gave me the name of one señora to visit and see if i liked the feel of the place. i arrive to a short and stocky grinning spanish woman who gave me a huge hug and 2 rather loud kisses on each cheek. she doesn't speak any english and neither do her two children who are in their upper 20's-30's. there is also a french student here who is doing spanish intensive courses. he's only 18, so young... then again my señora, rosa, thought that i was 23/24 and thinks that i am really young for being here too. she seems really flexible with eating times and curfew which was one of my concerns. i like the amount of practice that i get in living here. rosa seems to accept me under her wing while here. its a good feeling to have after being here alone for the first week.

pray against sickness. its really cold here. even in my room where i have a "personal radiator" i feel that i can't get warm. there's usually a high of 8C, no idea what that is in F. that combined with my lack of appetite and initial adjustments make it really easy to get sick. i'm still trying to get settled. its going to take a little while for this place to be home, especially missing so many of you at home. the Lord continues to be the Consolation and Sustainer. time is going slow and a part of me really wants to just go home. my señora keeps telling me this is normal and to just give it a week, wait till i make friends. then, she says the time will fly by. i know this is true, and granada is such a good place to explore... just give it a week.

My friend from camp will be getting here today and that will be nice to see a familiar face. i can't believe what a blessing the Lord has given me in here being here. she came with her best friend, renee, and i look forward to fellowshipping with them. their friend was here in the fall and found a local church that we can join. i'm really excited about that.

so, yes, the Lord has been faithful to his promises and has proven again that His character is trustworthy. pray that i would continue to seek him and find comfort in His promises in the Word. thank you for sharing with me in what i'm learning here in spain.

Rachael! I am so excited for you, and I know you will do wonderfully! However, Spanish here just isn't the same without you. You'll have to teach me lots of things when you come back. :) Good luck on your first week of classes!!

how bout we make a deal, rachael: you won't feel homesick and i won't feel jealous :) glad to hear things are going well there. thanks for sharing all those stories.

ps- Fahrenheit = (9/5 x Celsius) + 32
so 8C = 46.4F
(i had to look that up online, and even then i mispelled fahrenheit)

i was trying to estimate the F, and thought about 45...turns out I was close. All that practice in Australia had some good effect. (:
I'm glad things are going well so far, and know they will only continue to get better. I'm glad you love Jesus.
